We are Hiring! Graphic Design Intern

The Make Arcade is a rapidly growing craft business based in Salisbury and we are looking for a design intern to join our fab team. We design and manufacture craft kits which are sold on our website and Notonthehighstreet as well as trade customers throughout the UK including John Lewis, Paperchase and Dunelm.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and creative candidate to join us to create illustrations, logos and layouts for our kit instructions, work on photographic content and create packaging and exhibition material. The role will also involve working on other aspects of the business including the design of craft projects, and some general manufacturing duties/ packing up large orders when things are busy. We’re looking for someone who is a quick learner, has a great sense of humour and who would like to see how running a business works from the ground up as you’ll see every aspect of it!

The candidate is required to be proficient in design software including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop and be methodical, organised and be able to work to tight deadlines. A keen eye for colour and detail is important as well as excellent communication skills and spoken/written English skills (and a good tea maker). We would love it if you can use a digital camera/video to do some product photography/social media content too.

Previous graphic design employment experience is advantageous but we would love to see a strong portfolio of work and a willingness to learn quickly as the role develops. You will work closely with the design and marketing team so being able to react quickly and efficiently and juggle various tasks is key - priority can change quickly! You will be required to work with our printing suppliers and have the aptitude to source new suppliers for new ideas where required.

We strive to be innovative and are pushing the business forward to become a leading Indie Craft brand, proudly manufacturing in the UK. Our products are good quality and fun, inspiring people to pick up new skills and enjoy creative mindful moments.

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Updating and creating craft kit packaging
  • Product photography and photo editing
  • Creating Website graphics and images
  • Instruction page layouts
  • Brochures and promotional materials
  • Logos and Illustrations
  • Helping out on the production side when super busy!

This is an initial six month contract with a view for a permanent role for the right candidate. To start the role would be 24hrs per week (3 days) and the pay is £250pw with holiday pay TBA. We have a 50% staff discount and a fun work environment with lots of homemade treats. There is on-site parking or we are 10 minutes walk from Salisbury Rail Station.

Please submit a portfolio of work along with a CV and covering letter to hello@themakearcade.co.uk. Closing date is Monday 22nd March for an ASAP start date!
